Hwang In-yeop Discusses Relationship with Jung Chae-yeon and “Family by Choice”
Actor Hwang In-yeop, known for constantly challenging himself to showcase fresh sides, has proven his boundless potential with his deep, emotive acting in his latest project. He shared his aspirations to explore and take on more challenges in the future, leaving fans eagerly anticipating his next steps.
Reflecting on the success of his latest K-drama, “Family by Choice”, Hwang In-yeop shared, “On the last day, the director and cast gathered to watch while enjoying delicious food. I’m so satisfied and happy. I didn’t expect this much love, but it feels great knowing our happiness on set translated well to the audience.”
He recalled the emotional farewell, saying, “Filming wrapped in July, but memories of the scenes kept flashing back like a panorama. Baek Hyun-sung, Jung Chae-yeon, and I hugged and cried. It felt so short, like only eight episodes aired instead of 16. We even joked about a Season 2. It was bittersweet, but we were so thankful for the love the drama received.”
As “Family by Choice” is adapted from the famous Chinese drama “Go Ahead”, Hwang In-yeop admitted, “We all felt pressure, from the director to the cast, knowing the original’s strong reputation. We focused on infusing a Korean sensibility and creating a unique chemistry that felt authentic to our story.”
The effort paid off, as the chemistry between Hwang In-yeop, Baek Hyun-sung, and Jung Chae-yeon stood out. In fact, Hwang In-yeop and Jung Chae-yeon’s on-screen romance sparked dating rumors.
Speaking about their dynamic, Hwang said, “All three of us were shy initially, careful about respecting boundaries. To break the ice, I initiated conversations, but ultimately, it was about mutual effort. They approached me as well, and that made us close. It was rewarding to see how much people appreciated our chemistry.”
He also commented, “Since I was close with Jung Chae-yeon, we were able to come up with more ideas. I realized we had such great chemistry, to the point that dating rumors even arose. While there were many laughs as we aimed to portray good chemistry and romance, we approached it seriously. Even during the kiss scene, coordination was important. The staff also created a great atmosphere on set, which added a sense of nervousness and excitement.”
Finally, Hwang In-yeop revealed his future plans, further exciting fans.
“I’m preparing to show a refreshed version of myself. Whether it’s my physical appearance or character portrayal, I aim to bring something new. That’s my role as an actor”, he said.
