Appearing on the May 13 episode of SBS Plus and E Channel’s reality show Because I’m Solo, Hwang Jung Eum shared a candid conversation with her father during a visit to his home in Jeju Island.
“Do you think it’s better for me to remarry or not?” she asked, opening up the discussion.
Without hesitation, her father responded firmly, “You should absolutely not remarry. Now is the time for you to live your life. You do need someone you can share a glass of wine with in the evenings, but your priority should be being a responsible mother to your two children.“
Hwang agreed wholeheartedly. “I also have absolutely no thoughts of remarrying,” she said, clearly echoing her father’s sentiment.
Reflecting on her past, she added with a laugh, “When I got married, Dad told me, ‘You can know the depths of water, but not a person’s heart.’ If I ever get a boyfriend again, I’ll probably have to get your permission first.“
Hwang Jung-eum married former professional golfer Lee Young-don in 2016. The couple initially filed for divorce in September 2020 but reconciled in July 2021. However, by February 2023, it was revealed that they were once again in the process of divorce mediation.
