HYBE LABELS artists continue to achieve unimaginable successes
HYBE artists’ unrivaled achievements not only relieved concerns over the traditional physical sales of K-pop but also demonstrated remarkable growth in digital music streaming.
According to HYBE’s report on November 23rd, BTS Jungkook’s solo album “GOLDEN” is breaking new sales records. The album sold a total of 2,147,389 copies on the first day of its release. This is the highest first-day sales among Korean solo artists. After one week, “GOLDEN” successfully sold 2,438,483 copies. As a result, Jungkook became the Korean solo artist with the largest first-week sales record. Moreover, “GOLDEN” is also the first album from a K-pop solo singer to achieve first-week sales of 200,000 copies in the US. Such achievements were possible because of the high-quality music and performances as well as collaborations with famous artists.
SEVENTEEN is also earning more records. Their 11th mini album “SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN”, which was released on October 23rd, sold more than 5 million copies in the first week, marking the highest record in K-pop history. Adding to the sales of their 10th mini album “FML” released in April, SEVENTEEN has sold more than 16 million album copies this year alone.
Introduced on October 13th, TXT’s “The Name Chapter: FREEFALL” sold 2.25 million copies in the first week. As such, TXT broke their own initial physical record and achieved the second consecutive “Double Million Seller” title within the shortest time among K-pop groups.
Enhypen is maintaining a good momentum. Their 5th mini album “ORANGE BLOOD” released on November 17th created a craze right after its release by reaching 1,383,292 copies on the first day, surpassing the record of their 4th mini album “DARK BLOOD”.
The record-breaking achievements of HYBE artists are very meaningful amid concerns about uncertainties in the music market. This sets HYBE apart from other K-pop companies. In fact, this success is a result of the expansion strategy HYBE has been operating for several years. Apart from their projects in the US, HYBE recently established a Latin American sub-label and announced their entry into the Latin music market.
In addition to physical sales, HYBE LABELS artists are also doing well on digital charts. LE SSERAFIM became the first K-pop girl group to top the Melon TOP 100 & Daily charts with an English song after releasing “Perfect Night”. NewJeans sang the theme song “GODS” for the 2023 LOL World Championship and recorded the highest number of views and Spotify streams within 24 hours among all the theme songs.
The combined impact of album and streaming sales has boosted HYBE’s performance in the third quarter of this year to record the highest result of all time. HYBE’s continuous efforts to expand the scope of K-pop are expected to accelerate the phenomenon. Moreover, the stock market is also giving positive evaluations of HYBE’s expansion strategy.
