Hyuna Talks About Gaining 8kg and Being Healthier, “I Fainted 12 Times A Month & Used Oxygen Bottle”

Hyuna unveiled her daily life on episode 298 of MBC’s entertainment program “Omniscient Interfering View”, which aired on May 11th.
That day, Hyuna showed off her loyalty to her staff and managers, who have been working with her for 10 years since the early days of 4Minute’s activities. Hyuna shared, “I’m so grateful because I know they are sincerely doing this for me.” Therefore, the female singer always celebrates the birthday of her staff members and gives presents to them on holidays such as Christmas.

Hyuna’s unique chemistry with her staff was proven in a VCR of her daily life released after that. The manager knew the password of Hyuna’s house and they naturally pressed it to come in. Hyuna then gave the staff cute items worth about 240,000 won she bought from a prop shop.
What’s more surprising was that they had a meal together after filming a choreography performance video. During the meal, Hyuna said, “I went to eat pork belly again yesterday and ate a lot. After spending 4 months eating with my manager, I gained 5kg”. In response, the staff altogether exclaimed, “You did great. You must recover your energy”.
The staff responded in that way because they had witnessed Hyuna suffer from health problems and push ahead with an excessive diet to always be in shape in front of the public. Hyuna shared, “In the past, I always skipped meals before commercial shoots. I only ate after completing the schedules. Now, I can’t do it anymore”. The staff then recalled when Hyuna ate a piece of leftover pizza for two hours.

Her manager jokingly said, “Now she eats 4 pieces”, and Hyuna confessed, “I won’t faint again”. Describing Hyuna’s serious condition in the past, the manager commented, “That’s good”, adding “She fainted many times due to lack of nutrients because she didn’t eat for the diet”.
The manager continued, “As the staff has been working with Hyuna for a long time, each of us knows what to do to prevent Hyuna from fainting”, adding “The makeup artist looks at Hyuna’s face a lot so she can tell whether Hyuna is having a hard time based on her expressions on the monitor. The stylist always tries not to let her wear tight clothes. We’re watching her and taking care of her as closely as possible”. The efforts and dedication of the staff drew admiration from the panelists and viewers.
Watching the manager’s interview, Hyuna shed tears as she felt thankful and apologetic at the same time. She said, “I guessed I had an obsession back then. Many people liked me to look pretty so I thought I had to be perfect. Skinny might not be the standard of beauty, but since I started my activities at such a young age and received a lot of attention, I began to have such an obsession. In the past, I had only one bite of kimbap on days with schedules”.

Hyuna continued, “I had low blood pressure and it even dropped to 40”, adding “It must be 50 or higher so I could get discharged from the hospital, but it couldn’t go up because I was too skinny. I wanted to do well on stage and have a pretty body, but I kept collapsing. I fainted 12 times a month because of that. People around me were very worried, so I decided to change my lifestyle after realizing that there was no good dieting. The doctor at a university hospital told me that if I gained weight and changed my habits, I wouldn’t collapse. I gained 8kg and now I’m much healthier and live more comfortably.”
A staff member then told the story of how everyone was so moved to see Hyuna not fainting during a music video shoot. The staff said, “In the past, I always carried an oxygen bottle and looked at her eyes instead of her hair and makeup whenever I came to the shoot. We always had to check whether she was okay or not. But now, we completed the schedule in Thailand safely without such issues”. Hyuna added, “I felt so touched while doing this album. I didn’t think ‘I have to endure this’, and I was moved by the fact that I was able to endure it well. I feel so good”.
Later, Hyuna also expressed her deep gratitude to the manager for having been with her for 12 years. Hyuna emotionally confessed, “When I was in my hard time, I wondered, ‘Should I quit now?’, and he said, ‘Hang in for a little more. It’s such a waste of what you’ve done so far’. We got closer since then. He was the first manager to say such things to me. That’s why I tried to endure and continue. There were times when I had six schedules a day, and he said, ‘If you go to a higher place, I’ll try to arrange a more relaxed schedule’. That’s why I gained strength and worked harder”.
