“Illegitimate Child Scandal” Is It Fair for Lim Ji-yeon to Be Criticized for Supporting Jung Woo-sung?

Once again, the so-called “expression conspiracy theorists” are on the rise.
The 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards was held on Nov 29th at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. Jung Woo-sung took the stage as a presenter alongside Hwang Jung-min, his co-star in the film “12.12: The Day”.

This marked Jung Woo-sung’s first public appearance since news broke on Nov 24th that he has an illegitimate child with model Moon Gabi.
Naturally, all eyes were on Jung Woo-sung’s every move during the ceremony. Maintaining a solemn demeanor, he began his speech by thanking the audience for watching “12.12: The Day”, saying, “I am here today with a sincere hope that my personal matters do not tarnish the film or the efforts of all who worked on it.”
He continued, “To everyone who has sent me love and expectations, I deeply apologize for causing concern and disappointment. I will take full responsibility for all criticism. As a father, I will fulfill my responsibilities to my son to the very end.”
His heartfelt words, expressing accountability as a father, were met with applause from the audience. Among those captured on camera offering their support were junior actors Lim Ji-yeon, Park Ju-hyun and Lee Jung-ha.
The issue arose after the broadcast when some netizens deemed the applause inappropriate and began to criticize those who supported Jung Woo-sung. Extremist commenters flocked to Lim Ji-yeon’s social media accounts, leaving remarks such as, “Really, Yeon-jin (her villainous role in ‘The Glory’)?”, “What exactly are you supporting about Jung Woo-sung?” and “The acting world is truly their own separate universe.”
Lim Ji-yeon is signed to Artist Company, where Jung Woo-sung serves as a director, making them colleagues under the same agency. However, this has done little to quell the unwarranted wave of speculative criticism targeting her facial expressions and actions.
