On February 10, Chinese media outlet QQ reported that on the Chinese SNS platform Weibo, there are buzzing speculations that IU and Lee Jong Suk had broken up after three years of dating. The rumors began when Chinese netizens noticed that IU had recently been wearing a ring on her index finger instead of her ring finger. In South Korea, wearing a ring on the index finger is often associated with being single, fueling speculation that the couple had parted ways.
The news quickly gained traction, reaching Weibo’s Top 7 hot search rankings. Many fans expressed disappointment over the rumored breakup. However, others dismissed the speculation as baseless, arguing that the placement of a ring alone does not confirm a split.
Additionally, IU’s Chinese fans expressed their stance, saying, “We do not believe the rumor” and “We will not spread this rumor.” Instead, they are known to have started promoting IU’s upcoming Netflix drama, “When Life Gives You Tangerines.”

On the other hand, this isn’t the first time IU and Lee Jong Suk have faced breakup rumors. In early August 2024, a post titled “I Think Lee Jong Suk and IU Have Broken Up” went viral on the Korean online forum Pann Nate. It amassed 200,000 views in just one day.
The speculation arose from reports that IU and Lee Jong Suk spent their holidays apart. The Pann user claimed, “The journalist indirectly implied that they have broken up.”
However, fans have presented multiple pieces of evidence suggesting that IU and Lee Jong Suk’s relationship is still going strong. Though rarely seen together in public, the couple often expressed affection in interviews, with Lee Jong Suk subtly showing his love through items linked to IU.

Despite his busy schedule, he attended IU’s “H.E.R” tour kickoff in February 2024, cheering like a devoted fan. In September 2024, he was again spotted quietly watching her concert, further reassuring fans that their relationship remains strong.
The couple confirmed their relationship on December 31, 2022. This came after Dispatch released evidence of them vacationing together during the Christmas holiday. Before dating, the two had maintained a close friendship for over 10 years. Their relationship was widely supported by family and friends, with IU even singing at Lee Jong Suk’s younger brother’s wedding.
