IU’s ‘Shameless’ Answer Surprised Moon So-ri “Seoul National University Secret? Just Studying Textbooks”

On March 19, Netflix Korea released a behind-the-scenes video from “When Life Gives You Tangerines” on its official account.
The video showcased the filming process and the chemistry among the cast members.
One particularly hilarious moment featured IU, who plays Geum-myeong in the drama. In the scene where Geum-myeong receives her acceptance letter from Seoul National University, IU’s response left Moon So-ri (playing her mother) both shocked and amused.
When the production team asked “Geum-myeong, how did you get into Seoul National University?”, IU cheekily responded, “I just focused on textbooks. I paid attention in class, did all my homework… That’s all.”
When asked “Was studying the easiest thing for you?”, she smugly replied “It wasn’t particularly difficult”, making everyone burst into laughter.

Hearing this, Moon So-ri playfully teased, “Wow, my daughter is definitely not the humble type.”
The video also featured behind-the-scenes footage of Park Bo-gum, who plays Gwan-sik, frantically pushing a heavily pregnant IU in a handcart during a birth scene.
After multiple takes, Park Bo-gum looked visibly exhausted, prompting IU to say, “You look drained.” Park Bo-gum, ever the gentleman, simply smiled and replied, “I’m fine.”
Another fun reveal was the farewell scene at the train station, where Yeong-bum departs for the military—turns out, the train station was actually a blue screen setup.
The production team also showcased IU’s drunken father-daughter scene at a Chinese restaurant, where IU admitted that she drank real alcohol while filming for authenticity.

Meanwhile, Netflix’s series “When Life Gives You Tangerines” follows the adventurous life and many trials of Ae-sun, a poor girl wanting to become a poet who was born in Jeju, and Gwan-sik, a young man who cherishes and loves her, throughout the four seasons. The 16-episode drama is being released four episodes per week over four weeks.
