IVE’s An Yujin Faces Controversy for Alleged Disparaging Remarks About Korean Medicine

During her appearance on “Salon Drip 2” on the channel “TEO” on Jan 28th, An Yujin was asked by MC Jang Do-yeon what she wanted to do after obtaining her driver’s license. She mentioned “handling insurance claims” and stated, “According to the internet… If you weren’t at fault but someone else was, they say, ‘Go straight to the Korean Medicine Hospital!’” This remark reportedly offended many Oriental medicine doctors.

An Yujin shared her enthusiasm for driving during the show, saying that she had a particular fascination with the idea of handling insurance claims after an accident. While discussing “challenges”, she mentioned how she imagined dealing with a car accident and insurance procedures. She added, “I thought knowing how to do that was part of becoming an adult.“

She further explained that while she usually left other matters to her parents, she personally signed up for insurance. When MC Jang Do-yeon humorously acted out a scene of someone grabbing their neck and stepping out of a car after a minor collision, An Yujin responded, “I imagined it! In dramas, you often see people coming out while holding their necks.”

She continued, “According to the internet… If you weren’t at fault but someone else was, they say, ‘Go straight to the Korean Medicine Hospital!’” This statement referenced certain cases where Korean medicine hospitals have been criticized for overcharging insurance claims, implying that visiting such hospitals could lead to inflated medical expenses.

This comment has sparked heated debates among netizens. Some agreed with An Yujin’s remark, saying, “It’s true that many Korean medicine hospitals inflate medical bills after car accidents” and “The fact that such a comment was even mentioned reflects the public’s distrust of Korean medicine doctors and hospitals.” On the other hand, some defended Korean medicine practitioners “There are many ethical doctors who practice honestly” and criticized An Yujin’s remark as careless.
