IVE Hits It Big, But Rei Reveals Her First Paycheck Was Small: “I Gave It to My Parents Only After Saving Up”
On the March 28 episode of MBN’s “Jeon Hyun-moo Plan 2,” hosts Jeon Hyun-moo and travel YouTuber Kwak Tube (Kwak Joon-bin) visited a famous restaurant in Tokushima, Japan, along with singer Kim Jong-min and Rei.
During a heartfelt conversation over local delicacies, Jeon Hyun-moo asked Rei, “Did you buy a gift for your parents with your first paycheck?” Rei replied honestly, “I couldn’t spend it right away because it wasn’t much. I only gave it to them after saving up a bit.”

Curious, Jeon Hyun-moo followed up, “Did you give them cash?” Rei admitted, “Yes, but honestly, it felt a bit hard to part with because it was money I worked so hard for,” making everyone laugh.
Her candid answer drew laughter, but Rei then revealed a touching reflection that silenced the table, “But when I thought about it… My parents have been spending money on me since I was born. Why did I feel hesitant? Now, I try to have a lighter heart. My mom always tries to use money for me, but I tell her, ‘It’s okay, Mom. Buy what you want. Let me repay you.’”
Fans and viewers were moved by Rei’s deep sense of gratitude and maturity. Despite being one of the most successful 4th-gen idols, she remains grounded and family-oriented.

Rei debuted in 2021 with IVE, quickly skyrocketing with hits like “ELEVEN,” “LOVE DIVE,” “I AM,” “Baddie,” “HEYA,” and “REBEL HEART.” Aside from her musical talent, Rei’s quirky and lovable personality has made her a variety show favorite.
This rare glimpse into her thoughts adds another layer to the rising star, proving that behind the glitz of K-pop, idols like Rei carry humble and heartfelt stories that resonate deeply.
