Jang Nara Reveals Shocking Health Struggles “Stomach Ulcers and Intestinal Perforation, Liver Levels Were Abnormal”

On Dec 12th, a video titled “Nara, Were You Always This Kind of Character…? You’re Truly Adorable” was uploaded to Chae Jung-an‘s YouTube channel.
In the video, the two actresses discussed their shared experiences, particularly how both debuted as actresses through sitcoms. Jang Nara revealed, “I almost gave up on releasing albums because there wasn’t much reaction to my music at first. My song ‘Burying My Face in Tears’ could have been buried for real. Titles are important! But after being cast in ‘New Nonstop’, my songs started playing and my albums were revived.“
Despite her success as a singer, Jang Nara confessed to the toll it took on her body. She admitted, “My physical strength was a mess. My liver levels were abnormal, and I suffered from stomach ulcers and intestinal perforation. My health was completely ruined because I was living recklessly.“

In response, Chae Jung-an remarked, “But you became a huge hit. I was envious when you won the Teen Singer Award.” Jang Nara humbly replied, “I was lucky. Everywhere I went, there were people helping me. I was just grateful during that time. Even now, it’s the same. There are so many people better than me, but the fact that I still get work itself is a blessing.”
The conversation then shifted to their motivations for acting. Chae Jung-an reflected, “In my twenties, working solo was scary, and I wanted to run away. But when I did ‘Coffee Prince’ at 31, I discovered the joy of collaboration. It felt reassuring.”
Jang Nara shared her own inspiration “As a child, I was always exposed to acting because my dad was a theater actor. Watching my dad perform made me want to surpass him. In that sense, he was my hero. I followed everything he did“, giving a heartfelt glimpse into the roots of her acting dreams.
