Jang Wonyoung Faces Backlash Over 3-Million Views Rainy Stage Clip Compared to BLACKPINK

Jang Won Young, often referred to as the “K-pop princess,” has come under fire on social media due to a viral video comparing a recent rain performance by IVE with BlackPink‘s iconic rain-soaked concerts. The video has amassed nearly 3 million views and stirred intense debate among fans.
The clip in question shows IVE performing under heavy rain during a university festival, shielded by a large tarp on stage, while thousands of fans stood soaked in the audience below.
This visual contrast sparked immediate comparisons to BlackPink’s BORN PINK tour, particularly their concerts in New Jersey and Hanoi, where all four members danced and sang in torrential rain without cover, much to the admiration of fans worldwide.

Notably, it was reported that YG Entertainment had initially planned to pause the New Jersey concert due to severe weather, but BlackPink insisted on continuing the show, choosing to perform in solidarity with their drenched fans. Rosé even described the Hanoi concert’s rain-soaked finale as a memory she would treasure forever.
Against this backdrop, critics online accused Jang Wonyoung of prioritizing her appearance over fan experience. Comments ranged from, “She only cares about her makeup,” to “BlackPink puts BLINKs first, that’s why they’re global idols.”

However, many fans quickly jumped to IVE‘s defense. They pointed out that the event in question was a free university festival, unlike BlackPink‘s ticketed concerts, where fan expectations, and artist obligations, are significantly different. Moreover, using rain shelters for artists during school events is standard procedure to ensure safety and equipment protection.

Supporters also condemned the wave of hate as disproportionate and unjustified, arguing that comparing two vastly different types of performances is misleading. They noted that Jang Wonyoung has long been a target for excessive criticism, and this situation only further proves how internet hate can escalate unfairly.
Despite the backlash, the video’s virality has reignited broader discussions on idol treatment, performance standards, and the sometimes harsh scrutiny directed at female idols, especially those as high-profile as Jang Wonyoung.
