In January, Jay Park filed a request with the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, San Jose Division, asking Google to disclose the identity of a YouTuber.

Jay Park’s side claims that the operator of the cyberwrecker channel “BBR Detective Agency” (referred to as “A”) spread false rumors accusing Jay Park of smuggling drugs, engaging in illegal cryptocurrency dealings and having connections with the Chinese Triad. A alleged that “Koala”, known to be an acquaintance of singer Jessi, is a member of the Chinese Triad and supplies drugs to the hip-hop scene. A also released footage showing Koala inside More Vision, the company Jay Park founded, as well as images of Jay Park alongside Koala, emphasizing their connection.

In another video, A speculated that Jay Park was involved in illegal crypto trading, stating, “At ‘Rolling Loud 2023 Thailand OKX Stage’, the main Korean artists were Jay Park and Jessi. OKX is a cryptocurrency exchange.

These posts and YouTube Shorts accumulated millions of views and thousands of comments. In response, Jay Park officially sued A in early December 2024 at the Seoul Central District Court. However, since YouTube’s parent company Google is based in the U.S., it was impossible to verify A’s identity in Korea, prompting Jay Park to file a discovery request in the U.S. court.

Jay Park requested information on A’s name, date of birth, gender, phone number, address, login IP records and payment details linked to their Google account. The San Jose court assigned the case to Judge Eumi K. Lee for review.
