Jennie Shed Tears Singing “Twin”
BLACKPINK’s Jennie recently released her solo album “RUBY” with 15 tracks collaborating with 6 global artists and telling stories about herself, Jennie. As the main producer of this album, Jennie planned everything from the making of music to the visuals and drew admiration for her outstanding vision in art. Inspired by the poem “The Seven Ages of Man” by Shakespeare, Jennie expressed her opinions on love, birth, faith, and the climax of life in her debut album.

Along with the album release, Jennie also held “The Ruby Experience” concert in 3 cities, Los Angeles, New York and Seoul. On March 6th (US time), she took the stage at the first “The Ruby Experience” in L.A and performed all her 15 new songs. The concert was directed to let the audience go through the emotions of 7 important milestones in human life as inspired by “The Seven Ages of Man”.
Showcasing her powerful singing and rap skills, Jennie amazed fans with her improving performance skills and stage manner as an all-rounder solo artist and a real pop star.

Opening up about the song “Twin”, Jennie confessed that it was dedicated to a person. In an interview with Jane Lowe, she emphasized that “Twin” is a “very personal” track. She decided to release this song hoping that someone could relate to it. According to Jennie’s story, “Twin” helps her put an end to that past relationship.
Is “Twin” about a Past Lover?
Hearing Jennie revealing the story behind “Twin”, many fans have raised speculations that the song was about a person she deeply loved. In particular, until now, Jennie has either publicly dated or been spotted dating 3 famous male idols, including EXO’s Kai, G-Dragon and BTS’s V. Some suspected that the person Jennie referred to might be V as their romance was one of the hottest issues at that time.

However, after listening to the whole song, many began to think “Twin” was about another person. In the song, Jennie mentions “we were 10 years in” when talking about their relationship, emphasizing that they parted ways because she “added fuel to the fire”. After all, she still calls this person “my friend”.

During the performance of “Twin”, Jennie even shed tears upon singing the line, “Can you just bear with me? We were 10 years in, and young and dumb and innocent my friend. But I knew all along that we were both wrong”. These hints led fans to think that the main subject of “Twin” is G-Dragon.
Before dating photos of V and Jennie spread at the beginning of 2022, Jennie and G-Dragon were reported to have been dating by Dispatch. According to articles, Jennie was caught casually entering and leaving G-Dragon’s luxury apartment. The two are known as senior and junior from the same company, YG Entertainment. In 2020, G-Dragon, who was on a hiatus, made a special appearance on Jennie’s livestream and introduced her “Gentle Monster” collaboration products with BLACKPINK. Looking back on the two’s relationship, Jennie and G-Dragon have indeed known each other for more than 10 years.

Jennie was first introduced through the music video “That XX” by G-Dragon in 2012. She appeared on the stage for the first time to perform “Black” with him in 2013. In fact, G-Dragon has helped Jennie a lot ever since her trainee days.
After debuting, Jennie was often called by the nickname “female version of G-Dragon” because of her excellent rap and style. Jennie and G-Dragon are known for their impressive fashion senses and both are modeling for Chanel as ambassadors. As such, it is easy to think Jennie and G-Dragon do somehow give off the feeling of a “twin”.
In G-Dragon’s latest album, the song “Drama” also drew attention for its portrayal of an intense and traumatized love story. G-Dragon refers to his partner as a “drama queen,” someone who “never likes things to be peaceful.” The song opens with a tone of reproach as he sings, “When everything was going well, why did you act like it was falling apart?”. In the story, his partner constantly questions the depth of his love, seeking arguments to satisfy herself. In the end, both decided to set each other free

Coincidentally, in “Twin”, Jennie also wrote similar things. She describes the song as a deeply personal letter that someone will understand. Jennie believes that with time and maturity, the relationship will “heal” and they will be able to reconnect as friends. She even mentions watching upcoming pop music shows, saying, “I don’t hold you, but I still see you.” The way the two songs are strangely linked to each other has sparked curiosity among fans.
Taking a look at the way G-Dragon and Jennie promoted their albums, fans also noticed similar details in terms of visualization. The font of G-Dragon’s album “Übermensch” reminds people of the font on Jennie’s “Like Jennie” music video poster. Also, the word “Drama” in the teaser of G-Dragon’s MV resembles the design of the tracklist of the “RUBY” album.

Despite their close relationship in the past as artists from the same company, G-Dragon and Jennie are no longer showing any interactions although G-Dragon still meets other BLACKPINK members, like filming a dance challenge with Rosé or mentioning Lisa on Instagram.
In October 2024, Jennie and G-Dragon both presented at 2NE1’s concert in Seoul but they came separately. It seems that both have been avoiding each other, following dating rumors in 2021 and Jennie’s romance with the BTS member.
A Close Friend Called “Chahee”?
On top of this, some fans are guessing that a person named “Chahee” is the best friend that Jennie misses enough to make a song about. For this reason, fans have been visiting Chahee’s Instagram and leaving comments saying, “Jennie sang this song for you,” thinking that Chahee was the subject of the song “Twin.”

In particular, Chahee is an actress who started out as a member of the girl group Melody Day and then switched to acting. Jennie and Chahee, who were both born in 1996 and are the same age, have been friends since their days in Cheongdam Middle School and have shown their closeness as best friends by posting photos of themselves together on each other’s SNS and celebrating each other’s birthdays until early 2022. However, since mid-2022, for unknown reasons, there have been no traces of the two together.
Conclusion
On the other hand, it is important to note that all of these were merely speculations from fans. Jennie has never confirmed anything related to her romance. Jennie’s emotional moment during the L.A concert as she shed tears could simply be her overwhelming emotions upon releasing her debut album. Additionally, there is no way to know for sure who “Twin” refers to unless Jennie herself wants to reveal it.
