Jessica Jung, once celebrated as the “Ice Princess” of K-pop’s second generation, experienced a tumultuous journey from being a central figure in Girls’ Generation (SNSD) to establishing herself anew in the Chinese entertainment industry. Controversial Departure from SNSD
In September 2014, Jessica announced via her Weibo account that she had been unexpectedly informed of her removal from SNSD. She expressed shock and sadness, stating that despite prioritizing group activities, she was being forced out without justifiable reason. SM Entertainment responded, indicating that Jessica had previously expressed intentions to halt group promotions after one more album to focus on her fashion business, Blanc & Eclare. The company cited conflicts between her business activities and group schedules as reasons for her departure.
Venturing into Fashion with Blanc & Eclare
Post-SNSD, Jessica focused on her fashion label Blanc & Eclare, launched in 2014. The brand expanded globally, offering a range of products from eyewear to apparel. However, in 2021, Blanc & Eclare faced legal challenges when Joy King Enterprises filed a lawsuit seeking to recover over $6.8 million due to unpaid loans. The situation was later addressed, with reports indicating that the lawsuit had been dropped following an agreement between the parties.
Pursuing Opportunities in China
With limited opportunities in South Korea, Jessica turned to the Chinese entertainment market. In 2022, she participated in the third season of the reality show “Sisters Who Make Waves”, which features female celebrities over 30 competing to form a new girl group. Jessica’s performances were well-received, and she secured second place, earning a spot in the final group X-SISTER.
Continued Musical Endeavors
Jessica continued her musical pursuits, releasing the EP “Beep Beep” in November 2023. She also embarked on the “Diamond Dreams” concert tour, performing in regions such as Macau, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei and Bangkok.
