Ji Ye-eun Opens Up About Dark Times Behind Her Comedic Persona: “Long Years of Obscurity Changed Me”

On April 16, Netflix Korea’s official YouTube channel released a clip from its variety show Kian’s Bizarre B&B titled “Ye-eun’s Long Years in Obscurity: ‘I Just Wanted to Be Typecast’.”
In the clip, Ji Ye-eun sat down for a candid conversation with a guest at the guesthouse. When asked whether she feared being typecast after gaining recognition for her comedic roles, she responded, “I wanted to be funny. I loved it when people laughed because of me. That’s why I was determined to pursue comedy acting.”

She then revealed a deeper emotional truth behind her cheerful on-screen image, “I had a long period of being unknown, so honestly, I wished to be typecast, anything that meant people noticed me.”
Ji Ye-eun added, “I’m actually a very bright person, but there was a time when I was in a really dark place. It was so hard. Difficult things always seem to come all at once.”
Her heartfelt confession resonated with viewers, offering a rare look at the emotional cost of chasing a dream in the competitive entertainment world.
