Jin Ki-joo: From Samsung to Supermodel to Star Actress The Power of Bold Transitions

Jin Ki-joo, now recognized as one of Korea’s most compelling rising actresses, didn’t begin her journey in the spotlight. In fact, her early career path was far from typical for someone destined for the entertainment world.
From working at a major Korean conglomerate to winning accolades as a supermodel and finally debuting as an actress, Jin Ki-joo’s story is a rare blend of intellect, ambition, and creative passion.

From Stability to Self-Discovery
Born in Seoul and raised in cities like Gangneung and Chuncheon, Jin Ki-joo originally aspired to become a journalist an influence she attributes to her father. True to this path, she pursued a dual major in Computer Engineering and Journalism, combining technical proficiency with storytelling skills.

After graduation, Jin Ki-joo joined Samsung SDS as part of the highly competitive 52nd open recruitment class. She spent three years as an IT consultant, living what many would call a “dream job.” But beneath the stability, she questioned whether this career truly reflected her aspirations.
The Leap Into Media and Modeling
Motivated by this internal doubt, she left Samsung and passed the national media exam to become a trainee reporter at G1 Broadcasting, a regional station in Gangwon Province. However, even while working as a journalist, her curiosity about the world in front of the camera began to grow.

This led her to take another leap entering the 2014 SBS Supermodel Contest, where she finished as one of the top finalists out of 2,600 contestants. That experience introduced her to the entertainment industry and opened the door to acting opportunities.
Breakthrough in Acting
Jin Ki-joo made her official acting debut in 2015 in the drama “Twenty Again,” followed by roles in “Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo,” “Come and Hug Me,” and “Love at First Sight.” With each performance, she steadily built her reputation as a versatile and emotionally resonant actress.

Her performance in the film “Little Forest,” directed by Im Soon-rye, earned her critical acclaim and the Best New Actress Award at the 2019 Chunsa Film Art Awards. Acting alongside Kim Tae-ri and Ryu Jun-yeol, Jin Ki-joo’s understated and warm portrayal was widely praised.
Charming, Candid, and Consistent
Interestingly, Jin Ki-joo’s career seems to have a recurring connection with the number three: three years at Samsung, three months as a reporter, third place in a modeling contest, and a notable role in “Homemade Love Story.” Her candid charm and sincere personality have also made her a favorite on variety shows like “Running Man,” where she earned the nickname “Samsun.”

Though often perceived as courageous and bold, Jin Ki-joo humbly admits that she’s someone who fears change. “I’m not brave,” she once said, “I just followed what I truly wanted.” That honesty and her ability to follow through may well be the foundation of her steady rise.
New Projects on the Horizon
Most recently, Jin Ki-joo has taken on the role of a bubbly temporary teacher in “Undercover High School,” where her bright screen presence caught viewers’ attention. She has also been confirmed for the upcoming Netflix series “True Education,” which revolves around education inspectors cracking down on troubled schools. With her career gaining momentum, Jin’s versatility and depth are sure to shine in this fresh genre.

Now signed with a new agency and actively taking on diverse roles, Jin Ki-joo’s evolution from corporate employee to trusted actress is not only inspiring it’s a reminder that career reinvention is always possible when driven by passion.
