Jinyoung Talks About His Concerns While Filming Same-Sex Kiss With Son Woo-hyun + Kiss Scene With TWICE’s Dahyun

On Feb 27th, Xports News met with Jinyoung at a café in Palpan-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul to discuss the movie “You Are the Apple of My Eye”.

Directed by Cho Young-myoung, “You Are the Apple of My Eye” tells the story of Jin-woo (played by Jinyoung), who spends countless days before confessing to Seon-ah (played by Dahyun), capturing his first love at the age of 18.

As both Jinyoung and Dahyun come from idol backgrounds, Jinyoung shared his thoughts on Dahyun’s casting, “Before this, we had only exchanged greetings in passing. We had never worked together on anything. When I heard Dahyun was cast in ‘You Are the Apple of My Eye’, I thought about the image I knew of her, and she fit the role perfectly. She has that model student, neat and proper vibe. I felt like she could just act as herself and it would be great.”

Jinyoung then addressed the film’s much-anticipated kiss scene a same-sex kiss between Jin-woo and Seon-ah’s husband.

He shared, “This was actually my first time doing a same-sex kiss scene. I was really nervous. It was a sensation and emotion I had never experienced before. The things you haven’t experienced are always the most nerve-wracking. While waiting for the scene, my co-star Son Woo-hyun and I kept sighing. We were both so unsure about how to approach it. I think my co-star was more shocked by how intense the kiss ended up being.“

Regarding the kiss scene with Dahyun, Jinyoung revealed, “That scene was filmed after the same-sex kiss scene. Since I had already gone through that, I felt much more at ease. Dahyun told me it was her very first on-screen kiss, so she was extremely nervous. I tried my best to help her feel comfortable.”

Jinyoung continued, “Kiss scenes are just part of the job. The hardest part is everything leading up to it. It feels awkward and nerve-wracking at first, but once it’s done, it gets easier.”

Given TWICE‘s immense popularity, was he worried about the reaction from Dahyun’s fans?

Jinyoung caused laughter by saying, “I have my own fans too, so I hoped they’d be understanding. To be honest, I was worried. I even asked Dahyun, ‘Do you think I’ll be okay?’ She reassured me, ‘Our fans are cool and kind, so it should be fine.’“

“You Are the Apple of My Eye” is now playing in theaters nationwide.
