On July 1st, Netflix uploaded a highlight reaction video to its official YouTube channel, featuring Squid Game 3 cast members Im Si-wan, Jo Yu-ri, Park Sung-hoon, and Kang Ae-sim. The cast sat down to reflect on the series’ first game and some of the most emotionally charged scenes, including the birth scene that left a deep impression on viewers.

One of the most emotional sequences involved Jo Yu-ri’s character Jun-hee giving birth while another character, Hyun-joo (played by Park Sung-hoon), chose not to escape and instead helped with the delivery alongside Geum-ja (Kang Ae-sim). Park described the moment as “emotionally binding,” saying, “I think Hyun-joo felt a strong need to protect the three of them, even at the risk of his life.”

He also shared behind-the-scenes details, “Before I collapsed from Myung-gi’s second stab, the director asked if I could drop a single tear. We got it on the first take.”

Im Si-wan defended his character’s actions, “He intended to drop more money to help Jun-hee survive and escape. But then he got blinded by Myung-gi’s manipulation, seeing Hyun-joo as someone to eliminate for gain.”

Jo Yu-ri reflected on her intense birth scene, “That scene really stayed with me. I talked a lot with my mom and did plenty of research. People told me not to overthink and just go into a trance-like state. I don’t even remember exactly how I did it. I think I scratched the wall with my hands at one point.”

Kang Ae-sim, who also played a major role in the scene, added her own experience as a mother, “Childbirth is a battlefield. You push and press down on your belly—naturally, I started screaming. But because we were in the middle of the game and the enemies were possibly approaching, we had to keep quiet. We ended up doing several takes.”

This powerful episode from Squid Game 3 blends emotional intensity with physical performance, resonating deeply with both viewers and the cast involved.
