Jung Eun-chae Shared Her Thoughts on The Deleted Same-sex Kissing Scene from “Jeong Nyeon”

In a recent interview at a café in Gangnam, Seoul, Jung Eun-chae reflected on her experience working on the tvN drama “Jeong Nyeon”, which aired its final episode on November 17. The drama follows Jeongnyeoni, a natural-born voice genius who competes to become Korea’s top actress in the 1950s post-war period.
Jung Eun-chae played Moon Ok-gyeong, a mysterious and stoic character who is the leading male role in a female Korean opera troupe. She shared that her biggest challenge in portraying Moon Ok-gyeong was making her character convincing despite the gender differences in the role. “At first, I thought Moon Ok-gyeong needed to appear convincingly masculine in the drama,” she explained. “It was difficult to figure out how to express this in a natural, believable way.”

Jung Eun-chae also discussed the physical changes she made for the role, saying she had to blend the original charm of the character with her own style. She said, “I worked hard to create a character that wasn’t overly artificial but still had a neutral charm.”

The deleted kiss scene between Moon Ok-gyeong and Seo Hye-rang, revealed in an uncut script, generated buzz online. Jung Eun-chae explained that the scene was filmed but ultimately cut in the final broadcast. She shared, “We shot all the scenes that were in the script, including different versions, and I only found out how it was edited when I watched the final broadcast. After much discussion, I think the most appropriate direction was chosen for the final production.”
