Renowned composer and guitarist Jung Gu Hyeon, widely respected in the gaming music scene, recently offered rare insight into the personalities of some of K-pop’s biggest stars during an interview with Sports Korea. Having collaborated with groups like Girls’ Generation, SEVENTEEN, Stray Kids and INFINITE, Jung spoke warmly of his experiences working closely with these idols.

Stray Kids’ Seungmin: Humble and Hardworking

Jung highlighted Seungmin of Stray Kids, whom he teamed up with for two drama soundtracks. “Few singers in Korea can use falsetto effectively, but Seungmin stands out with a voice that’s both beautiful and incredibly nuanced,” he explained. Despite his demanding schedule, Seungmin came well-prepared to recording sessions and even practiced choreography during breaks. “He’s the kind of person who never rests,” Jung added, noting Seungmin’s genuine humility and dedication.

SEVENTEEN’s Vocal Unit: Talented and Grounded

Reflecting on a project with SEVENTEEN members Woozi, DK and Seungkwan, Jung noted their down-to-earth demeanor. “They may be stars, but they were so approachable,” he shared. The trio recorded the track “Is It Still Beautiful” with great attention to vocal harmony, extending the recording process due to their commitment to perfecting the blend.

Jung also praised Minnie from i-dle, describing her as an exceptional vocalist. “Her pronunciation was impeccable, and her vocal tone was distinct,” he said. He recalled pushing Minnie to explore her range during the recording of her solo track, impressed by her adaptability and growth throughout the process.

INFINITE’s Nam Woo Hyun: A True Collaborator

Among the artists Jung has worked with, Nam Woo Hyun of INFINITE left a significant impression. “There’s a synergy when we work together—we’ve created songs in just half an hour,” Jung said. He commended Woo Hyun’s artistic evolution and intuition, calling him a perfect example of an idol who has matured into a genuine artist.

Currently, Jung balances his time between game music (45%), drama OSTs (5%) and general pop music (10%). His admiration lies with artists who show not just talent but growth, discipline and sincerity—qualities he’s found in the idols he’s collaborated with.
