On June 14, Jungkook posted on the global fan community Weverse, saying, “I sincerely apologize for causing disappointment and discomfort to many people due to the phrase written on the hat I wore during rehearsal.” He continued, “I deeply acknowledge that it was my lack of awareness in wearing something without fully confirming the historical and political implications of the phrase, and I take this matter seriously.”

The incident occurred during a rehearsal for BTS member J-Hope’s world tour encore concert, held on the previous day at Goyang Stadium in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, where Jungkook appeared as a guest.

At the time, Jungkook wore a hat with the phrase “MAKE TOKYO GREAT AGAIN”, which was later revealed to be a slogan frequently used by right-wing politicians in Japan.

As the controversy grew, Jungkook quickly issued an apology. He said, “There is no excuse, regardless of the reason. I was careless and lacked judgment. From now on, I will think and act more carefully in every aspect.”

Meanwhile, Jungkook and Jimin officially completed their military service on June 11 at the 5th Infantry Division in Yeoncheon, Gyeonggi Province, returning to their fanbase “ARMY”. Following RM and V’s discharge on June 10, Jungkook and Jimin’s return means that six out of seven BTS members have now completed their mandatory service.
