BTS Jungkook showcased his unique charm in the United States
On Nov 7th (KST), Jungkook appeared on the popular US talk show “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” (Jimmy Fallon Show) and performed his new song “Standing Next to You”. It was reported that this was the first time that the “Standing Next to You” performance was made available on a US public TV program targeting the general public.
The show’s host Jimmy Fallon introduced Jungkook’s achievements, “First of all, since the last time you were on our show, BTS has been nominated for five Grammys. Your single ‘Seven’ made history by being the fastest song in history to reach 1 billion streams. And now your debut solo album ‘Golden’ is out and it’s already breaking all sorts of records.”
When asked “How does it all feel?“, Jungkook replied, “You really make it sound like I’m a huge global pop star. Frankly speaking, I was confident, but this is beyond my imagination. And I am very grateful to ARMY. Because if it was not for ARMY, this wouldn’t be possible.”
To the question “Outside of music, what do you do for fun?“, Jungkook answered, “I think… Pretty ordinary, like many people. Like, sometimes I spend my whole day in bed. Or cooking. Working out. I like to cook mak-guk-su. If I get a chance, I can cook it for you.” Jimmy Fallon responded with cheers, showing his enthusiasm.
Jungkook, who communicates with fans through the global fan community platform “Weverse”, garnered attention by occasionally revealing himself sleeping via live broadcasts.
Jimmy Fallon asked, “You fell asleep and just slept for 45 minutes. And 6 million people tuned in to watch you sleep. Did you feel sleepy going in? What happened?” Jungkook caused laughter as he confessed, “I think my fans, ARMY, liked it because… It was something very unexpected, but… Actually, it’s a little embarrassing.“
Jimmy Fallon jokingly said “I think it’s so funny. I think it’s great. I’m going to try this. But I snore, so it’s going to be rough“, generating laughter.
When asked what he is most proud of, Jungkook responded, “Whether I put it lightly or seriously, I think the two things I’m most proud of are ‘ARMY’ and ‘BTS’. If it weren’t for them, I would not be what I am today.” Jimmy Fallon complimented him, “That’s cool that you stay humble.”
Jungkook also talked about his album “Golden”. He explained the reason for naming it “Golden”, “Member RM gave me the nickname ‘Golden Maknae’. I have a lot of association to the term ‘golden’. When my mom was pregnant, she had a golden dream. If I look back on my journey, it’s very much a golden moment. So when I thought about the title of this album, ‘Golden’ was the only thing that came up in my mind.”
