HYBE Labels artists elevated their status at the Japan Gold Disc Awards
The “Japan Gold Disc Awards” is one of the most prestigious music awards ceremonies in Japan, presented annually by the Recording Industry Association of Japan to honor artists and works that have significantly contributed to the advancement of the music industry. Winners and works are selected based on criteria such as net sales figures, music transmission sales figures and streaming performance.
According to the list of winners announced on March 13th for the “38th Japan Gold Disc Awards”, a total of 11 trophies were claimed by four teams: BTS’s Jungkook (Big Hit Music), Seventeen (Pledis Entertainment), LE SSERAFIM (Source Music) and NewJeans (ADOR).
Firstly, Jungkook won Song of the Year by Download (Asia) with his solo single “Seven (feat. Latto)”. This achievement not only adds to the total of 33 awards won by BTS members at this ceremony but also showcases Jungkook’s significant popularity in Japan as a solo artist.
Seventeen, by winning six awards at this time’s “Japan Gold Disc Awards”, once again proved themselves as the undisputed “K-pop top group”. Especially noteworthy is their debut win in the “Best Asian Artist” category, awarded to the artist who demonstrated the most shining performance during the year. Additionally, they swept Best 3 Albums (Asia) with their 10th mini album “FML”, Japan best album “Always Yours” and 11th mini album “Seventeenth Heaven”, making history at the “Japan Gold Disc Awards”.
Seventeen’s achievements also include winning Album of the Year (Asia) with “FML” and Music Video of the Year (Asia) for “Seventeen World Tour ‘Be The Sun’ Japan”, further solidifying their popularity.
LE SSERAFIM and NewJeans’ remarkable progress is also highlighted. LE SSERAFIM, which released their Japan debut single “Fearless” in January last year, won New Artist of the Year (Asia) and Best 3 New Artists (Asia).
NewJeans, which has yet to officially debut in Japan, won Song of the Year by Streaming (Asia) with their mega-hit song “OMG” and was selected as one of the “Best 3 New Artists (Asia)”.
At the “37th Japan Gold Disc Awards”, HYBE Labels artists, primarily BTS and Seventeen, received a total of eight awards. With BTS members currently fulfilling their military duties, this time’s “38th Japan Gold Disc Awards” saw a more diverse range of artists winning trophies than the previous year, indicating significant progress.
