JYP Blocked Ex-VCHA’s KG’s Career and Refused to Meet over Abuse Allegations

In response, JYP USA insisted that KG claims are ““false and exaggerated”, to which KG replied with a scathing statement and mentioning that her legal team has prepared photographic and physical evidence.

Following this, KG’s attorney, Jeremiah D. Graham of JD Graham Legal, followed up with his own remarks and clarified KG’s reasons for pursuing legal action.
According to Graham, all KG wanted was release from her contract. However, JYP’s terms were overly restrictive, allegedly barring KG from pursuing independent opportunities or speaking about her experiences under the threat of penalties and damages.
It was also revealed that JYP USA not only refused to meet KG and her legal team, but also threatened to block her career.

Below is the full statement from KG’s attorney:
“As KG’s legal representative, I met with JYP’s legal representation and let them know that all KG wanted was a release from the contract. They said, ‘No’. they said that she could not publish any songs on her own, that she could not seek career opportunities, and if someone happened to come to her she needed to submit that to them, and then they would decide whether she could take the opportunity. That, coupled with the threat of liquidated damages and penalties if she spoke about her experiences is why she felt compelled to initiate a lawsuit, because otherwise she would’ve been silenced and unable to pursue her career for years. With a lawsuit, she is now able to stand up for the treatment of other artists and advocate for herself and others.
Amid a year in South Korea that included several high-profile battles regarding contractual limits with top artists such as NewJeans, as well as the country’s ongoing political gridlock and turmoil, the case has sparked additional conversations about the attention given regarding contracts and pressures faced by idols pursuing the now-global K-pop landscape. While JYP USA highlighted its attempts to resolve the matter privately, KG and her team have painted a different picture of alleged silencing tactics and restrictive contract terms.
AdvertisementThe legal standoff’s resolution—or lack thereof—could set a precedent for handling similar cases in an industry operating in multiple countries and hemispheres today. For now, both sides are calling for public kindness and patience as they navigate this complex and contentious dispute.”
