Kang Byung Gyu “Assault Lee Byung Hun on the set of ‘Iris’? Here’s what really happened”

On March 24, a video featuring Kang Byung Gyu was uploaded to the YouTube channel “Channel Gofixhae”.
In the video, Kang Byung Gyu looked back on the time he was put on trial for allegedly using violence at the “Iris” filming site (charged under the Act on Punishment of Violent Acts, etc.).

When the production team asked if he had confronted the opposing party face-to-face, he replied “No, I didn’t” and explained “People who are powerful and influential never have to do a face-to-face confrontation. The police don’t even call them. They summon a lawyer quietly and conduct a light investigation. I kept requesting a confrontation. I said, ‘Why is this person suing me? He’s never even seen me.’ So I asked for him to be summoned. Then he came to court. But suddenly, the judge said, ‘Thank you for coming to court despite your busy schedule’”, exposing the biased situation he encountered.
He emphasized, “When he took the witness oath, he didn’t even look me in the eye once. The courtroom wasn’t some grand space like in dramas or movies. I kept staring at him until the end, hoping he would look at me just once. I wanted to ask why he was attacking me, why he thought that way. People think I assaulted Lee Byung Hun, but for me to do that, I would have had to meet him first. We never even crossed paths.”

Kang Byung Gyu further explained that the conflict began when “Iris” producer “J” whom Lee Byung Hun was working with badmouthed Kang Byung Gyu to reporters. As tensions escalated, cast member “K” tried to arrange a reconciliation. However, when Kang Byung Gyu went to the filming location for that purpose, he claimed he was attacked by producer J’s brothers. The call to 112 was reportedly blocked by K, and the incident later became known as a mutual assault and on-set disturbance.

Kang Byung Gyu confessed, “I wanted (J) to apologize, clear up misunderstandings and build a better relationship. That’s why I went there to receive an apology. I explained this to a few people, but no one cared.”
