Kang Ha-neul on the Slippery Scene That Made Him Shower 4 Times: “Still Gives Me Chills”

Kang Ha-neul has stunned fans with a wild behind-the-scenes story from the upcoming action film YADANG: The Snitch, involving real eels, a truck crash, and four showers in a single day.
In a YouTube interview posted on April 18 by Harper’s Bazaar Korea, Kang Ha-neul joined co-stars Yoo Hae-jin and Park Hae-joon to talk about their filming experiences. The video, titled “How Did They Even Film That?”, revealed the chaotic and unforgettable eel truck scene that left a lasting impression on both actors and viewers.

“There’s a truck transporting live eels that flips over, and action scenes break out,” said Yoo Hae-jin. “When I first read the script, I was really curious how they’d film that.”
Kang Ha-neul, visibly shivering just from recalling the moment, added, “I wondered the same thing while reading it—‘Is this even possible?’ But we shot it with real eels! I had to fall into water, get out, and keep fighting. That day, I showered four times. The smell… I still get chills.”
The unexpected physicality of the scene and the very real writhing eels brought a new level of realism to the film, but at a very personal cost to Kang Ha-neul’s senses.

Outside the chaos of filming, the trio also shared more mundane glimpses into their daily lives. Yoo Hae-jin described his as “very routine,” with mornings spent working out and afternoons running errands. Kang Ha-neul noted he tends to “sleep a lot,” while Park Hae-joon said he starts his day by sending his kids off to school before enjoying lunch with his wife.
YADANG: The Snitch, an intense crime-action drama, stars Kang Ha-neul, Yoo Hae-jin, and Park Hae-joon, and is expected to be one of the standout Korean films of 2024.
