Kim Geum-soon Frames IU as Thief “Jenny’s Mother in ‘When Life Gives You Tangerines’ Leaves Strong Impression”
In Episodes 7-8, released on March 14, Mi-hyang is seen putting Geum-myeong (IU) in a difficult situation.
Mi-hyang, determined to send her daughter Jenny (Kim Soo-an) to university, approaches Geum-myeong with an offer to take the entrance exam on Jenny’s behalf. Knowing Geum-myeong is struggling financially, she tempts her with a brutal reality check, saying, “Don’t just think about yourself. Think about your parents who have sacrificed for you. If a dragon is to rise from the mud, the mud has to be completely trampled first.”
Despite Mi-hyang’s enticing promise a Seoul apartment in exchange for the exam Geum-myeong firmly refuses. Enraged, Mi-hyang falsely accuses Geum-myeong of stealing her diamond ring.
Kim Geum-soon masterfully portrays Mi-hyang’s manipulative nature, seamlessly switching between sweet persuasion and cold-hearted intimidation. She dominates the screen, portraying a woman who will stop at nothing to get what she wants.
At the same time, she adds depth to her character, showing Mi-hyang’s genuine fear that her daughter might discover her past an element of distorted maternal love.
