Kim Go-eun Lowers Her Head at Production Team’s Request “I Don’t Know, I Miss My Mom” (The Ways of Tasting)

On the November 17th episode of tvN’s variety show “The Ways of Tasting”, actresses Lee Ji-ah and Kim Go-eun were shown taking on the challenge of writing a gourmet column.
The pair expressed their concerns upon hearing the challenge, asking, “Record? We have to write something? Is it a heavy topic? We thought we just had to drink.” Kim Go-eun jokingly said, “I think it’s better to leave now. I’m not confident.”
She then teased Lee Ji-ah “You know a bit about whiskey, right? You’re good at writing, so you should write it. Then we can credit it as ‘Written by Lee Ji-ah, Travel Companion Kim Go-eun’”, humorously shifting the responsibility to Lee Ji-ah, which elicited laughter.

Since both admitted to knowing little about whiskey, they decided to seek advice from experts. The first whiskey expert they met explained, “Whiskey is made from just three main ingredients: water, yeast and grains. Single malt whiskey, for example, uses only barley.”
The expert also emphasized the importance of airing whiskey, “Whiskey is strongest when you first open it. You should store it in a closet because if you see it, you’ll end up drinking it.” Lee Ji-ah said, “We always open a new bottle and finish it the same day.”
Kim Go-eun admitted “I’ve never stored alcohol in a closet”, to which Lee Ji-ah added, “We’d probably need a lock and key to keep it safe, and we’d have to hide the key separately.”

Their first whiskey pairing menu featured halibut carpaccio with lemon vinaigrette. Later, while tasting a Shine Muscat shortcake, Lee Ji-ah remarked “They used good whipped cream—100% animal-based fresh cream”, surprising everyone.
After sampling the whiskey pairings, the production team asked the duo to describe the flavors in a single phrase. Lee Ji-ah humorously confessed, “I enjoy eating it, but it stresses me out.”
Kim Go-eun reflected “I’ve learned a little about how well whiskey pairs with food” before lowering her head and saying with a sigh, “I don’t know. I just miss my mom.”
“The Ways of Tasting” follows Lee Ji-ah and Kim Go-eun as they explore renowned restaurants and bars in Korea and Taiwan, experiencing gourmet culture through whiskey and food pairings.
