Actress Kim Hye-yoon is trading romance for horror as she steps into a spine-tingling new role in the upcoming film “Salmokji” (tentative title), set to co-star Lee Jong-won. Distributor Showbox officially announced the casting on April 15, confirming the two rising stars will lead this suspenseful thriller.

“Salmokji” tells the eerie tale of a film crew that travels to a secluded reservoir to update road view footage, only to encounter an ominous force lurking beneath the water’s surface. With mystery and terror unfolding in a remote setting, the film is expected to deliver a gripping cinematic experience.

Kim Hye-yoon, fresh off the success of her romantic drama “Lovely Runner” with Byeon Woo-seok, takes on the role of Su-in. The character is a professional who begins experiencing chilling, unexplained phenomena during a business trip. This marks Kim’s long-awaited return to the big screen, following her 2022 films “The Girl on a Bulldozer” and “Ditto.”

Joining her is Lee Jong-won, making his first major appearance in a commercial film. Known for his notable roles in “Knight Flower,” “Bad Memory Eraser,” and “Brewing Love,” Lee will play Gi-tae, a man who joins Su-in in unraveling the dark mystery of the reservoir.

Directed by Lee Sang-min, who previously earned acclaim with short films like “Honor Guard” and “Harmjinabi,” the film promises a fresh take on the horror genre. It will be produced by The Lamp, the powerhouse studio behind hits such as “A Taxi Driver” and “Samjin Company English Class.”

“Salmokji” is scheduled to begin filming in May, and fans are already eager to see whether Kim Hye-yoon will emerge as Korea’s next “Horror Queen.”
