Kim Jaejoong Recounts Terrifying Sasaeng Fan Incident: Smiling Even as His Car Overturned

On the April 29 episode of SBS’s “Dolsing Fourmen”, singer Kim Jaejoong shocked viewers with jaw-dropping stories of his past encounters with obsessive sasaeng fans. The male idol’s chilling accounts of extreme celebrity harassment delivered quite the shock to cast members and audiences alike.
“I never felt truly safe,” Kim Jaejoong admitted, confessing that these incidents left him with long-lasting trauma. To avoid being tracked, he once owned 7 to 8 cars, rotating them constantly, yet even that wasn’t enough. “They would memorize my license plates. Some even crashed into my car on purpose just to see me”, the male idol said.
One of the most disturbing incidents he shared was a car accident on Dongho Bridge, where he was being chased by sasaeng fans in a taxi. In an attempt to evade them, Jaejoong’s car overturned. “There was smoke coming out of the car. I crawled out, fearing an explosion. And there she was — a sasaeng fan smiling and taking pictures of me from a distance.”

Kim Jaejoong also spoke about years of living under the “surveillance” of these fans. “They moved into the apartment across from mine. I went from living in a high-rise to a semi-basement to avoid them, but they always found a way,” he stated, adding that a sasaeng would even sent him emails with photos she took of his bedroom and bathroom that she took while the male idol wasn’t home.
Even more horrifying was a moment when a female intruder appeared on top of Jaejoong while he was sleeping. “At first, I thought it was a dream. But then I felt her lips touching mine,” he recalled. In the end, a fellow group member who was living with Jaejoong screamed and their manager immediately called the police.
As horrifying as his stories are, Kim Jaejoong’s calm tone in recounting them only emphasized the normalization of such harassment in the K-pop industry, a reality that needs urgent change.
