New testimonies from Kim Sae-ron’s alleged ex-boyfriend has made further revelations about the actress’ tragic passing.
Recently, media outlet The Fact contacted Kim Sae-ron’s alleged ex-boyfriend, K, who clarified the circumstances around Kim Sae-ron’s death, stating, “I am furious about how the facts have been distorted. I want to reveal at least part of the truth for the sake of Sae-ron’s soul. Sae-ron, even after passing away, wouldn’t have wanted the cause of her death to be distorted.”
Trapped in a Toxic Marriage
According to K, during marriage, Kim Sae-ron faced severe difficulties and reached out to her ex-boyfriend for support. However, when her husband discovered their communication, his response was extreme. He allegedly seized her phone, kept her under strict surveillance, and subjected her to relentless verbal abuse.
On January 13, a disturbing message from her husband illustrated the level of hostility she endured, “Since you’re married, stop contacting other men. Just live your miserable life and clean up the mess you made, you worthless piece of trash.”
The constant turmoil took a devastating toll on Kim Sae-ron, leading her to engage in repeated acts of self-harm. K insisted that Kim Sae-ron’s suffering was not linked to past relationships, including her connection with Kim Soo-hyun, nor was it about her financial struggles. The 700 million KRW debt had been addressed a year earlier, and Sae-ron herself did not seem to carry significant distress over it.
On January 15, the late actress sent a heartbreaking message to K, saying, “I’m sorry. Just curse at me. Call me a piece of trash, a crazy b*tch, or a lunatic. I keep getting cursed at and hit anyway, and nothing changes.” In another emotional confession, she said, “If it meant you could be happy, I wouldn’t ask for anything, not even my dreams. I loved you more than anyone in this world.”
She also detailed how she ended up trapped in a marriage that quickly turned toxic, saying, “I met this person in November. At first, he showed no emotion, and every day was difficult for me. He was always busy and tired, but I was so lonely because I had no one to lean on, so I let my guard down. The fact that someone would listen to me and help me felt like something I needed. But that feeling didn’t last long. After that, he threatened to leak my KakaoTalk messages and photos, hacked my Instagram, posted things on my behalf, hit me, and cursed at me. I was terrified. That’s why I couldn’t leave him. And I was afraid it would affect you too.”
Abandoned by Family
Among the many hardships Kim Sae-ron faced, the most painful, was the lack of support from her own family, said K.
One particularly devastating incident occurred on November 1, 2024, when Kim Sae-ron severely injured her wrist in a self-harm attempt, requiring immediate emergency surgery. Despite being notified, none of her family members came to see her in the hospital. Instead, K remained by her side throughout her recovery, while a staff member from her former agency covered the medical expenses.
K also said he took Sae-ron home, only to find her biological mother casually having a meal with an acquaintance, adding, “She showed no sign of shock or concern. Because of this kind of treatment, Sae-ron always wanted to run away.”
Even after her marriage, Kim Sae-ron confided in K, even texting him, “Just cutting my wrist wasn’t enough for me to forgive myself or escape. I tried slitting my throat multiple times, even tried hanging myself with a hose, but all I got were scars. I’m sorry I couldn’t keep my promise. And yet, the pain I feel is nothing compared to what I deserve.”
The Family’s Questionable Involvement
Following her passing, Kim Sae-ron’s aunt unexpectedly stepped into the public eye, presenting herself as the family’s spokesperson. K found this deeply frustrating, as he believed the truth about her struggles was being twisted to fit a particular narrative. K also pointed out that neither of Kim Sae-ron’s biological parents had come forward, which made him question whether she had intentionally distanced herself from them. None of her family members, he claimed, even knew that she had gotten married, which he saw as proof of how disconnected they were from her.
“They barely paid attention to her while she was alive,” K remarked, “but now that she’s gone, they are suddenly bringing up an old relationship with a famous actor. What is their real motive? I’ve never met Kim Soo-hyun in person, but I can’t help but feel he’s being unfairly dragged into this just because of his fame.”
To support his claims, K provided a signed statement, complete with his full name, personal identification number, and fingerprint stamp. He also documented Kim Sae-ron’s hospitalization in detail and submitted recorded evidence of their conversations.
One of these recordings included Kim Sae-ron telling a friend that she needs surgery and money, showing her reluctance to reach out to family.
