On March 17, outside the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, the legal representative of Kim Sae Ron’s family, attorney Bu Ji Seok from Buyou Law Firm, was joined by Kwon Young Chan, head of the Korea Celebrity Suicide Prevention Association, and Kim Se Ui, head of Garo Sero Research Institute, to address the press.

Kwon, who has been advocating for the family, previously spoke out about Kim Sae Ron’s struggles before her passing. Kim Se Ui, known for his investigative broadcasts, had reported on allegations involving Kim Soo Hyun, including claims of an underage relationship and financial pressure related to a 700-million-won debt.

During the press conference, Kim Se Ui arrived wearing a red headband with the words ‘Anti-Impeachment’ written on it. This unexpected political statement at a non-political event led to visible frustration among journalists present.

One reporter at the scene stated, “Considering the nature of the event, we decided to blur the ‘Anti-Impeachment’ slogan to prevent any misinterpretation of the family’s position.” Some media outlets either censored the slogan or omitted images of Kim Se Ui altogether in their coverage.

Viewers of the live broadcast also voiced strong reactions in the comment section, questioning, “What does Kim Sae Ron have to do with impeachment?” and “Stop trying to link this case to a political agenda.” Others accused Kim Se Ui of exploiting the family’s claims for his own platform. However, some defended him, pointing out that he frequently wears the headband during his broadcasts.

In response to the criticism, Kim Se Ui explained, “Garo Sero Research Institute is originally a political YouTube channel. With the world’s attention on the Kim Soo Hyun issue, I wanted to highlight South Korea’s current situation. I apologize if this caused concern for media outlets that do not share my views, but I will continue wearing the ‘Anti-Impeachment’ headband.”
