On May 21, MoneyToday reported that Kim Sae-ron, who was a high school senior in 2018, was dating a well-known older idol member, referred to as Mr. A, rather than Kim Soo-hyun. It was confirmed that Kim Sae-ron and Mr. A briefly broke up in early 2019 but reconciled in early to mid-2022.
This period coincided with Kim Sae-ron’s DUI incident. Mr. A reportedly lent her a significant amount of money during her financial difficulties, and Kim Sae-ron introduced him as her boyfriend to acquaintances. The two broke up in early 2023 but maintained contact until last year.

An entertainment industry source stated, “Kim Sae-ron continued to meet Mr. A as friends after their breakup. Mentioning their relationship is solely to clarify the timeline regarding the Kim Soo-hyun dating rumors, and we hope to avoid reckless speculation about Mr. A’s identity.” There were rumors that one of Kim Sae-ron’s ex-boyfriends was a member of a famous seven-member idol group, but these claims were found to be untrue.
Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Sae-ron’s family have been engaged in a dispute since March over whether they dated during her minor years. Kim Sae-ron’s side claimed through the YouTube channel Garosero Research Institute that she dated Kim Soo-hyun from late 2015, when she was in her third year of middle school, until July 2021. However, Kim Soo-hyun’s side countered that they dated from the summer of 2019 to the fall of 2020, after Kim Sae-ron had become an adult.

The dispute has escalated to legal action. Kim Soo-hyun’s side filed a defamation lawsuit against Kim Sae-ron’s family and Garosero Research Institute’s representative, Kim Se-ui, along with a damages lawsuit worth 11 billion KRW (approximately $8 million USD). On May 7, Kim Sae-ron’s family announced at a press conference that they had filed a lawsuit against Kim Soo-hyun for alleged violations of the Child Welfare Act and false accusation.
