Kim Soo-hyun vs. Kim Sae-ron Family: 10 Legal Cases Under Police Investigation
Seoul authorities are currently investigating a total of ten legal cases stemming from the ongoing conflict between actor Kim Soo-hyun and the family of the late actress Kim Sae-ron, police confirmed on May 19.
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced during a regular press briefing that seven cases were filed by Kim Soo-hyun’s side, while three were submitted by Kim Sae-ron’s family. Additionally, a whistleblower complaint concerning the family’s legal counsel has been assigned to Gangnam Police Station.
Kim Soo-hyun’s legal team previously filed multiple charges against the controversial YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute, citing stalking, defamation, and violations under special laws on sexual violence, including unauthorized distribution of manipulated video or audio recordings. The team claims the recordings involving the late Kim Sae-ron were AI-generated and doctored. Police stated they are currently arranging the plaintiff’s appearance schedule, while the accused parties have not yet been summoned for questioning.
On the other side, Kim Sae-ron’s family submitted a criminal complaint against Kim Soo-hyun to the Seoul Metropolitan Police on May 7, accusing him of violating the Child Welfare Act, alleging he was romantically involved with Kim during her minor years. The case is now being handled by the Women and Juvenile Crime Unit under Gangnam Police Station.
Meanwhile, a separate whistleblower case filed with South Korea’s Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission was transferred to Gangnam Police on May 16. The complaint targets Bu Ji-seok, the attorney representing Kim Sae-ron’s family, accusing him of providing inappropriate legal advice or potentially acting as a co-conspirator in the broader case.
As both sides continue to pursue legal action, the situation remains highly sensitive and complex. Police emphasized that investigations are ongoing and declined to disclose further details due to the nature of the allegations and their impact on the individuals involved.
