Kim Soo Hyun’s Embarrassment on Camera as He Gets Scolded by Director “Even More Awkward When You See His Colleagues’ Reactions”

For nearly a month now, Kim Soo Hyun has been dominating headlines and social media due to suspicions of dating a minor. Amid the controversy, numerous old videos of the actor have resurfaced, including a clip from his 2008 audition for “Boys Over Flowers” that recently sparked renewed discussion.
According to Koreaboo, during the script reading session for the drama at the time, actors were asked to perform their lines in front of the director. When it was Kim Soo Hyun’s turn, he unexpectedly improvised and altered his lines slightly. This “self-directed” performance displeased the director, who promptly reprimanded the young actor in front of the entire cast, “Don’t act however you want.” The director’s stern words left Kim Soo Hyun visibly flustered and momentarily frozen in embarrassment. Adding to the awkwardness, several actors at the session laughed at the situation, making it even more uncomfortable for Kim Soo Hyun.

At that time, Kim Soo Hyun was still an unknown actor, having only played minor supporting roles in sitcoms. Not only was he scolded in front of his peers, but he was also cut from the cast of “Boys Over Flowers” as a result of his unsanctioned improvisation. The role originally considered for Kim Soo Hyun ultimately went to young model Jung Eui Chul. Cameras captured Kim Soo Hyun’s visibly dejected expression as he lost the part at the last minute.

As fans may recall, “Boys Over Flowers” became a sensational hit upon airing, catapulting its cast—from leads to supporting actors—to fame. Many fans later expressed regret that Kim Soo Hyun missed out on being part of the iconic show.
Following that setback, Kim Soo Hyun had to wait quite some time for his next opportunity. He later appeared in “Will It Snow for Christmas?” (2008). Although it didn’t become a huge hit like “Boys Over Flowers”, his performance left a mark on viewers. In 2010, he secured another supporting role in SBS’s big-budget drama “Giant”, produced for the network’s 20th anniversary. Just a year later, Kim Soo Hyun finally landed a leading role in “Dream High”, which became a television phenomenon and made him a household name across Asia.

Since then, Kim Soo Hyun has continued to shine on the small screen, rising to A-list status through a string of smash-hit dramas like “Moon Embracing the Sun”, “My Love from the Star”, “It’s Okay to Not Be Okay” and “Queen of Tears”.
However, the actor is now facing the biggest crisis of his career. He is embroiled in controversy over a romantic relationship with Kim Sae Ron during her teenage years. Amid the scandal, Kim Soo Hyun stated that the relationship took place when Kim Sae Ron was 19–20 years old, not earlier. He has filed lawsuits against Kim Sae Ron’s family and the Garo Sero Institute, accusing them of defamation, spreading false information, and is seeking damages amounting to 11 billion KRW.
