Kim Soo-hyun’s Fans Under Fire for Mocking Late Kim Sae-ron While Pursuing Legal Action for Defamation

While actor Kim Soo-hyun’s fan union recently declared legal war against malicious commenters for defaming the star, the fandom is now facing intense criticism for engaging in what many are calling deeply hypocritical behavior, mocking and slandering the late actress Kim Sae-ron.

Fan Union’s Legal Stand Contradicted by Online Attacks on Kim Sae-ron
Recently, posts appeared on the Kim Soo-hyun fan gallery attacking Kim Sae-ron. One post criticized the price of her urn, stating, “She couldn’t even afford to pay her debts, but went for something expensive,” and “She’s broke yet chose the best option,” followed by other comments such as “She should’ve paid her debts first.”

Some users even spread false claims, saying she had taken drugs and caused a car accident while under the influence, an allegation without basis. Others circulated rumors that she frequently partied at nightlife venues while underage. The late actress’s family was also targeted, with claims like “They’re profiting off their dead daughter,” and “Seems like they want money from a certain YouTube channel.”
These comments have ignited widespread outrage online, with many netizens slamming the double standards at play. “They threaten to sue over insults against Kim Soo-hyun, yet they insult a deceased woman with zero remorse?” one commenter wrote. Under Korean law, defaming the deceased can result in up to two years in prison or a 5 million KRW fine.
Legal Pursuit Continues Amid Fallout Over Fan Conduct
Back on April 22, Kim Soo-hyun’s fan union, represented by attorney Yang Tae-young from Siwoo Law Firm, announced they would pursue strong legal action against anyone spreading false information or engaging in malicious commentary about the actor. “We won’t tolerate character attacks any longer,” they said. The union also included plans to monitor misleading media reports and pursue third-party complaints on behalf of the fandom.

Kim Soo-hyun is currently embroiled in a high-profile defamation lawsuit, seeking 12 billion KRW in damages from Kim Sae-ron’s family and the controversial YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute. He denies dating Kim Sae-ron while she was a minor and maintains their relationship began after she reached adulthood.
While the actor continues to defend his reputation through legal means, the latest conduct from some of his supporters is casting a shadow over their cause, prompting many to question the line between justice and cruelty.
