On May 12, Barbie Hsu‘s mother posted a heartfelt message alongside a family photo to her social media account. “This year’s Mother’s Day is a sad one. My son-in-law, Koo Jun-yup, misses Barbie dearly and is growing thinner day by day,” she wrote. “Mike, my other son-in-law, is always caring and attentive. “I must stay strong. Though not immediately, I believe things will slowly get better,” she added.

Barbie Hsu passed away from pneumonia during a family trip to Japan on February 2 and was cremated there before her remains were brought to Taiwan.

Koo Jun-yup mourned her loss publicly, and a farewell ceremony was held 42 days later on March 15 at Jinbaoshan Memorial Park, chosen as her final resting place to fulfill Koo’s wish for a dedicated place to visit her.

On April 4, Chinese media like Sohu reported that “Koo Jun-yup has lost about 12kg and cries every day.” It was also revealed that Barbie’s younger sister and her family invite him to weekly dinners to support him. “Koo has no family in Taiwan and is enduring immense pain alone,” one acquaintance said, “so her family is making an effort to care for and comfort him.”
