People in the film industry showed respect for Kim Hye-soo, who hosted the Blue Dragon Film Awards for 30 years
On November 24th, the 44th Blue Dragon Film Awards was held at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, and hosted by Kim Hye-soo and Yoo Yeon-seok.
It was the last day Kim Hye-soo could be seen as the MC of the Blue Dragon Film Festival after being with the awards ceremony for 30 years since 1993. Together with her co-MC Yoo Yeon-seok, Kim Hye-soo appeared on the Red Carpet wearing an elegant gold dress and a necklace with a large pearl.
Following Yoo Yeon-seok, who said, “Today marks the 30th year that senior actress Kim Hye-soo has hosted the Blue Dragon Film Awards. Please give her a big round of applause”, many actors, including Jo In-sung, Go Min-si, Lee Byung-hun, and Song Joong-ki, expressed their respect and gratitude toward Kim Hye-soo.
Go Min-si, who recently worked with Kim Hye-soo in the movie “Smugglers”, said, “Like the way Ok-bun considers her sister a role model in ‘Smugglers’, I will become a better actress who can follow the wonderful path that senior actress (Kim Hye-soo) has laid”.
Jo In-sung shared, “Lastly, Kim Hye-soo is happier than anyone else. If time allows, I want to give her a warm hug”, then came to hug Kim Hye-soo tightly after completing his speech.
Performing a celebration stage, Kim Wan-sun emotionally confessed, “Kim Hye-soo was my muse”. Park Jin-young also performed a couple dance with Kim Hye-soo when singing “When We Disco”.
Even after the award ceremony, many people continued to show support for Kim Hye-soo.
In a TV broadcast filmed at the Blue Dragon Film Awards, Song Yoon-ah said, “I can’t imagine a Blue Dragon without her, but actress Kim Hye-soo is always with us”, adding “Thank you for being the woman of Blue Dragon for 30 years. I will never forget that. I love you”. Han Ji-min also thanked Kim Hye-soo for being with the Blue Dragon Film Awards for 30 years with a picture showing a bouquet of flowers.
At the end of the awards ceremony, a tribute video compiling Kim Hye-soo’s moments throughout the 30 years of her journey with the Blue Dragon Film Awards was shown. Jung Woo-sung then delivered the Blue Dragon trophy to Kim Hye-soo on behalf of everyone in the Korean film industry.
Jung Woo-sung said, “Even in my 30th year of acting career, I’m still nervous when invited to awards ceremonies. But I felt comfortable whenever I came to the Blue Dragon Film Awards. Perhaps it’s because there was a person named Kim Hye-soo who always hosted the event with her warm and deep empathy. I’m sad and honored to be together with you for this last time.”
Kim Hye-soo also conveyed her emotional heart, saying “This award is more valuable and meaningful than any other award”, adding “I learned the solidarity of people in the film industry while hosting 30 Blue Dragon Film Awards. I’m grateful that there was a Blue Dragon Film Award with Kim Hye-soo’s narratives. Please warmly welcome Kim Hye-soo, who will celebrate the end of the year without an award ceremony in the future.”
Lastly, she said, “This is Kim Hye-soo, the MC of the Blue Dragon Film Awards. Thank you”. Leaving the stage after her speech, Kim Hye-soo remained the representative of the Blue Dragon Film Award until the end.
