Korea’s Aricell Lithium Battery Factory After Fire: Worst Factory Fire In History, Increasing Deads & Injuries
At 10:31 a.m. on June 24th, a large fire broke out at the third building of the Aricell plant of Jeongok Industrial Complex in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi, Korea, causing huge damage to both people and property.
Until 6:30 p.m. on the same day, the police confirmed that the fire killed 22 people. 2 people were seriously injured and 6 others had minor injuries. The authorities are still looking for more missing workers.
In particular, there were 20 foreigners among the dead, including 18 Chinese, 1 Laotian, and 1 person whose nationality has not been identified. According to reports, many dead were severely burned and the police had to identify them by doing an ADN examination.
Worrying about the damage spread as the fire busted at a lithium battery factory, the fire authority already announced a notice at level 2 and dispatched 145 firefighters and 50 vehicles to put off the fire.
According to the Korean media, approximately 35000 lithium pin products stored in this factory suddenly exploded at the same time. It is speculated to be the cause of the fire although the police have not confirmed it. However, it is said to be the worst factory fire in the history of Korea.
