Late Kim Soo-mi’s Daughter-in-Law Seo Hyo-rim Feels the Void During Kimchi-Making Season

On Nov 25th, Seo Hyo-rim shared several photos on her personal social media account with the caption, “One month… but life goes on. Kimchi-making day… missing her even more.”
The photos showed Seo Hyo-rim making kimchi, marking the first kimchi-making session since the passing of Kim Soo-mi. Seo Hyo-rim, who lost her mother-in-law a month ago, conveyed her deep longing while making kimchi, saying, “Missing her even more.”

Seo Hyo-rim and the late Kim Soo-mi shared a close and loving bond as mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. Even before Seo Hyo-rim married Kim Soo-mi’s son Jung Myung-ho, CEO of Napalkkot F&B, they were so close that they would frequently spend hours chatting on the phone as colleagues and friends.
Kim Soo-mi had previously revealed how much she cherished Seo Hyo-rim, saying, “Two years after my daughter-in-law got married, my son (Jung Myung-ho) was somehow implicated in a fraud case in the media, but he was later cleared of any wrongdoing. I was worried that my daughter-in-law might be hurt, so I gave her my house. If things ever changed and they divorced, my daughter-in-law would only get 50 million won in legal compensation, so I wanted her to be able to live comfortably with her child with that money. It was a conversation between two human beings. Of course, that was a hypothetical situation. Now they are living very happily. The way I was treated by my mother-in-law, I’m now doing the same for my daughter-in-law.”

Their close relationship even led to frequent appearances on variety shows. On the program “Excuse Soo-mi – Let’s Eat First”, Seo Hyo-rim once shared, “In 2017, I was filming a drama as Kim Soo-mi’s daughter, and now, somehow, I’m here working at a restaurant with her.” To this, Kim Soo-mi joked, “How funny life’s connections are. How did we end up like this?”
Their bond went far beyond the typical mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship. Thus, Kim Soo-mi’s sudden passing was even more devastating for Seo Hyo-rim. During the funeral service held on Oct 27th, Seo Hyo-rim was seen sobbing, saying “Don’t go, Mom” and “How can you leave after suffering so much?”—touching the hearts of many.
Now, one month after the heartbreaking farewell, Seo Hyo-rim continues her daily life by making kimchi, though the void left by Kim Soo-mi—renowned for her exceptional cooking skills—is profoundly felt. Despite this, Seo Hyo-rim expressed her determination, “Life goes on, and the tasks must be done.” Fans have shared words of encouragement, leaving comments such as “Stay strong, Hyo-rim”, “She’s watching over you”, “Continuing daily life is the best way to heal” and “We miss her dearly too.”
