Lee Byung Hun Proudly Talks About 30-Year Friendship “So Ji Sub is the youngest, but the most mature”
In the “Zzanbro” episode uploaded on March 24th, Lee Byung Hun made a rare appearance on a variety show and brought laughter.
He honestly confessed, “Variety shows still feel awkward to me. People talk about me a lot, but I haven’t actually appeared that much. I always thought ‘Someday I’ll probably end up doing one’, and when I finally did, even I felt strange watching myself on screen.”
He mentioned when he was persuaded to appear on “SNL“, “I usually drink about half a bottle of wine at home daily. One day, Dong Yup came over with a pretty expensive bottle. That’s when I sensed he had something to ask. As expected, he asked me to appear on ‘SNL’. I was so nervous, I initially said no. But Dong Yup, who normally sleeps by 11 PM, stayed at my house until 3 AM for days, waiting for me to say yes. On the third night, after drinking late into the night, I finally agreed.”
Shin Dong Yup added “Everyone, this is what ‘three humble visits’ truly look like”, joking about the persistent persuasion. He also expressed gratitude, saying it was for the premiere of “SNL” Season 1 on Coupang Play. Lee Byung Hun then joked “I heard rumors that Shin Dong Yup became a chaebol (conglomerate owner) because of it”, lightening the mood.
Lee Byung Hun mentioned that many of his label juniors like Lee Ji Ah, Park Hae Soo and Lee Hee Joon had appeared on “Zzanbro“. He confessed, “Before I went on ‘SNL’, they asked me how to do it. But I didn’t even know myself I just told them, ‘Let go of yourself.’ I really let everything go. I still regret it. I was just trying to promote a movie and ended up creating lifelong memes. I already have too many memes without trying.” Shin Dong Yup replied, “That’s what makes it great.” Lee Byung Hun quipped “Do I really need to make that much money?”, making the studio erupt in laughter.
The two have been close friends for 30 years. Lee Byung Hun expressed his gratitude, “Dong Yup and Seung Heon have never missed a single important life event of mine.” He also revealed that there’s a private group including Song Seung Heon, So Ji Sub, himself and Shin Dong Yup. Lee Byung Hun shared, “Whenever we joke around, So Ji Sub just listens and laughs. He’s the youngest, but the most mature. He’s the type who always listens.”
Speaking about Shin Dong Yup, Lee Byung Hun said “Acting is my foundation, but when I watch ‘SNL’, I see Dong Yup catch the little things I missed and portray them brilliantly. I truly respect him for that”, sincerely expressing his admiration and friendship.
