Lee Chae-yeon, formerly of IZ*ONE Chaeyeon, is officially venturing into acting with her debut in Budding Romance, a music-healing romantic comedy set to premiere on June 12 across major OTT platforms including Wavve, Tving, Watcha, KT Genie TV, SK Btv, and Homechoice.

At the production presentation held on June 9 at the Shocking K-POP Center in Sangam-dong, Seoul, director Hwang Kyung-sung and main cast members—including Lee Chae-yeon, Xion (ONEUS), Dongmyeong (ONEWE), and Choi Da-eum—shared insights into the drama and its characters.

Budding Romance tells the story of Yoo Chae-rin (Lee Chae-yeon), a national idol who has grown weary of music, and Han Jung-woo (Xion), a passionate singer-songwriter nursing emotional wounds while working part-time at a chicken feet restaurant. Their unexpected meeting sets off a journey of healing, dreams, and love.

Director Hwang described the drama as “a warm and encouraging tale about dreams and courage.” Lee Chae-yeon’s portrayal of Yoo Chae-rin is central to the story. “She’s a tough, aloof character—called a national goddess—but also has a tender, playful side. I took on a lot of the comedy in this role,” Lee Chae-yeon shared.

Xion recalled the challenge of filming a Viking ride scene on day one, humorously admitting, “I asked the director dozens of times if I really had to ride it.” His real-life twin, Dongmyeong, also making his acting debut, joked about a scene where Jung-woo hits him, “Even if it was acting, it didn’t feel great.”

With a heartfelt plot, fresh talent, and an immersive soundtrack, Budding Romance is shaping up to be a notable addition to this summer’s K-drama lineup.
