Lee Jung-jae Gives Update on His Close Friend Jung Woo-sung After ‘Secret Child Controversy’

On January 2, Lee Jung-jae participated in an interview at a café in Sogyeok-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, to discuss the Netflix original series “Squid Game” Season 2.
“Squid Game” Season 2 follows Seong Gi-hun (played by Lee Jung-jae) as he returns to the deadly games seeking revenge, facing off against the Front Man (played by Lee Byung-hun), and diving into the next phase of the brutal competition.

Lee Jung-jae, who is thriving in multiple fields as an actor, director, and major shareholder of Artist Company, explained his involvement in the company when asked how he would like to be addressed. “Of course, I do run a company, but I hope people understand that I am managing it to be more active in my acting, directing, and producing work. I’m not studying business or have knowledge in that area,” he explained, adding that he relies on professional management to run the company.

He continued, “I need professional managers who, like me, work hard on creating projects and acting, and who can help the company. That’s why I started the company, but I want to focus on my own work.”
Having become a global actor, Lee Jung-jae made his successful directorial debut in 2022 with the film “HUИT.” Still brimming with passion, he shared, “I’m writing a screenplay. When you focus on just one, if it doesn’t move forward in production, it’s zero. I wrote 3–4 scripts simultaneously when I wrote HUИT, and I’m still doing that now. I’m also working on a project in collaboration with the US.”

Meanwhile, his close friend Jung Woo-sung, who starred alongside Lee Jung-jae in “HUИT,” recently faced a scandal after publicly acknowledging an extramarital child, rumors of a romance with a non-celebrity woman, and flirting messages leaked through social media. Due to the controversy, Jung Woo-sung was noticeably absent from his agency, Artist Company’s, New Year’s greetings.

Lee Jung-jae updated on Jung Woo-sung’s status, “Jung Woo-sung is busy filming ‘Made in Korea’ and has been traveling to provincial areas. I haven’t seen him lately because I’ve been overseas for promotions—sometimes for 3 weeks, other times 1-2 weeks. I haven’t seen him much, but once my overseas promotions are over and his filming in the provinces wraps up, we’ll catch up,” proudly showcasing their unchanging ‘Cheongdam couple’ friendship.

With “Squid Game” Season 3 still yet to be released, Lee Jung-jae shared his plans for 2025, stating, “I think I’ll need to focus on promoting Season 2 so that many people can watch it. I’ll have to spend more time to ensure it achieves good results. And, if there’s more work to be done for Season 3, I’ll need to handle that and promote it as well. Personally, I’m working hard on writing the screenplay.”
