On June 26, Lee Kyung-kyu’s agency issued a formal statement, saying, “We sincerely apologize to fans and the public for causing concern due to recent media reports.” They emphasized that Lee was transparent about his condition and driving on the day of the incident, and that he feels deep remorse for having driven while unwell—regardless of it being due to anti-anxiety medication.

The situation escalated after broadcaster MBN released CCTV footageshowing Lee’s vehicle in a minor collision with a parked bus in a narrow alleyway in Gangnam, Seoul. Further footage showed the entertainer staggering and later mistakenly entering the wrong parking lot before departing in a different vehicle. These incidents led to a bus driver filing a report and police conducting an on-site drug test, which yielded a positive result. A comprehensive analysis later confirmed the finding, and Lee was officially booked for violating the Road Traffic Act.

Previously, on June 24, Lee appeared at the police station for about 1 hour and 45 minutes of questioning. During his statement, he admitted, _“I did not fully understand how dangerous it was to drive after taking anti-anxiety medication. I sincerely apologize to all my fans and will make sure this never happens again.” _His legal representative added that Lee has long suffered from panic disorder and was visiting a hospital on the day of the incident due to deteriorating symptoms.

Public opinion, however, remains split. Many are calling for the comedian’s retirement, stating: “Regardless of the medication, his condition was clearly unsafe for driving,” and “He’s a public figure he should set a better example.” Others described the video as “shocking” and emphasized concerns about public safety.
