“Marijuana use with Yoo Ah-in” YouTuber arrested “Return to Korea after fleeing abroad”

According to Newsis on Oct 28th, Judge Yoo Dong-gyun of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 24 ruled on Oct 24th that Kim Woo-jun, charged with violating the Narcotics Control Act (marijuana), would be fined 5 million won and required to complete 40 hours of a drug rehabilitation program.

Kim Woo-jun, who has 310,000 subscribers, gained fame as Yoo Ah-in‘s hairstylist while actively posting vlogs and other content on YouTube. He was accused of smoking marijuana during a trip to the United States with four acquaintances, including Yoo Ah-in, in January last year.

In July last year, Kim Woo-jun acknowledged the allegations in a statement on his YouTube community, saying, “It is true that I have been involved in a marijuana case with a well-known celebrity, which has recently been forwarded to the prosecution.

The court stated, “The defendant smoked marijuana several times during the trip abroad with his group. However, the defendant admitted to all charges and fully cooperated with the investigation. He was persuaded by others to use marijuana, and it is difficult to view his use as habitual, with the amount smoked being relatively small.

Yoo Ah-in, meanwhile, is facing trial on charges of using various medical drugs, including propofol, midazolam and ketamine, 181 times between September 2020 and March 2022 under the pretext of cosmetic procedures. He is also charged with smoking marijuana three times in January last year. Additionally, from May 2021 to August last year, Yoo Ah-in illegally obtained 1,100 sleeping pills, including Stilnox and Xanax, under another person’s name in 44 separate instances. Yoo Ah-in was sentenced to one year in prison in his first trial and remains in custody, with his appeal trial set to begin on Oct 29th.

Meanwhile, a YouTuber in their 30s, identified as Yang, has been arrested on charges of smoking marijuana with actor Yoo Ah-in.

According to the police on Nov 4th, the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency obtained an arrest warrant for Yang on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act and arrested Yang on Oct 31st. Yang is set to be handed over to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office on Nov 5th.

Yang is accused of smoking marijuana multiple times with Yoo Ah-in and others during a trip to the United States in January~February last year.

When the investigation into accomplices began, Yang fled to France in April last year, evading authorities until voluntarily returning to South Korea through Incheon International Airport on Oct 28th and being arrested by the police.

Earlier, the police issued an arrest warrant for Yang, invalidated Yang’s passport and requested Interpol to put Yang on the wanted list.
