Mercy for None Earns Praise from Original Webtoon Creators Ahead of Netflix Premiere

Netflix’s upcoming noir action series Mercy for None is already garnering high praise ahead of its global premiere on June 6, particularly from the creators of the original webtoon that inspired it.
Adapted from the acclaimed Naver webtoon Plaza Wars, Mercy for None follows the dark and gripping tale of Nam Ki-joon a former gangster who once cut his own Achilles tendon to disappear from the underworld. Eleven years later, he returns to uncover the truth behind the mysterious death of his younger brother Ki-seok, the former second-in-command of their organization. What unfolds is a gritty revenge story wrapped in layers of conspiracy and loyalty.

The original webtoon creators, Oh Se-hyung and Kim Kyun-tae, have both voiced strong support for the adaptation, having previewed the series ahead of its release. Their enthusiastic endorsements have only heightened excitement among fans.
Oh Se-hyung contributed a new illustration of Nam Ki-joon adjusting his gloves a visual that mirrors a powerful moment from the series where So Ji Sub, portraying Ki-joon, dons leather gloves before taking on a one-versus-many battle. “As expected, it delivers just as expected,” Oh wrote. “Cheering for the newly reimagined Nam Ki-joon!” His words signal confidence in both the actor’s performance and the series’ faithful reinterpretation.
Kim Kyun-tae shared an equally emotional tribute, illustrating Ki-joon with his late brother’s hand on his shoulder, accompanied by the message, “Hope you enjoy Netflix’s Mercy for None.” The image resonated deeply with longtime fans of Plaza Wars, especially given the strong casting resemblance noted between the actors and their original webtoon counterparts.

Director Choi Sung-eun, who led the Netflix adaptation, spoke on the challenge of translating such a beloved and well-crafted story to screen. “The original webtoon was so immersive and powerful that I focused on preserving its tone and manner. While staying true to the heart of Nam Ki-joon‘s revenge story, we also aimed to bring something fresh for new audiences.”
With a star-studded cast led by So Ji-sub and Choo Young-woo, stylized action sequences, and deep emotional stakes, Mercy for None is shaping up to be a standout addition to Netflix’s genre offerings. The global premiere is set for Friday, June 6 at 4 PM KST, exclusively on Netflix.
