Michelin Chef Fabrizio Reveals He Was Tricked Into His First Trip to Korea: “I Didn’t Know It Was for a Cooking Competition”

On You Quiz On The Block episode aired on November 20, Michelin-starred chef Fabrizio appeared and recounted his initial exposure to Korean cuisine. “Our team grew to include seven staff members, three of whom were Korean. While working, I often asked them about Korean food and learned a lot. When I first saw gochujang, I thought it was similar to Nutella and tried eating it straight, I had no idea it would be that spicy!” he said, drawing laughter.

Fabrizio had always been intrigued by Korea. “It was a completely new taste to me, but it was incredibly delicious. That sparked my interest in Korean cuisine. In 2016, I suddenly found myself participating in a Korean cooking competition in Milan. I ended up winning first place,” he shared. “The prize was a travel voucher to Korea. When I arrived at Incheon Airport and the gate opened, I was greeted by KBS cameras. That’s when I realized I was appearing on a TV program. I was completely shocked, I had no idea!”
Fond memories of that experience eventually led Fabrizio to move to Korea permanently in 2018, where he has been living ever since.
