Stars’ burnout experiences are receiving sympathy from the public
Celebrities are inevitably more vulnerable to physical and mental stress as they are of the public’s interests. Accordingly, many stars talk about their burnout and slumps on broadcasts, and are raising their voices about the importance of mental health.
In MBN’s program “Playing Sister,” which first aired on November 28th, the cast members talked about their difficult times. Narsha said, “I cut off all media and music activities until a year or two ago,” while Ivy confessed, “I couldn’t stand making mistakes because I had a great desire to be recognized from an early age.”
In addition, Chungha, Kim Se-jeong, and BTS’s V have also shared their experiences of burnout, drawing attention. Chungha said on MBC’s “Omniscient Interfering View,” “My burnout came very badly. If it wasn’t for (Jay Park), I would have studied abroad now,” while Kim Se-jeong said on KBS2’s “Problem Child In House,” “I worked and worked, and thought, ‘What am I rushing for?'” BTS’s V used to reveal, “I was in a situation where I had to do things, but it was really hard, so I thought a lot about wanting to do nothing for a day,” adding, “I was full of negative and hard feelings, so I thought, ‘I’ll have to get it done’.”
Some are struggling with burnout and ongoing struggles. Recently, ITZY’s Lia and SNSD’s Tiffany Young announced their activity suspension due to psychological anxiety and poor condition. Lia said in a handwritten letter, “I feel like I’ve passed so many things over and over again. Of course, it will be full of memories and happy moments together. It was such a precious time, but I realized that I had been missing myself more and more. I was always more grateful to fans than anyone else. I just want to give them love and happiness. To do that, I thought that I should take a moment to love and complete myself first.”
Stars are exposed to a number of external factors that threaten their mental health, such as rushing schedules, public expectations, and malicious comments. Moreover, as there are a few cases where they are mentally pushed to the limit and make unfortunate choices, voices emphasizing the importance of “mental health” are growing day by day.
BLACKPINK’s Rosé attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit held on November 17th (local time), stressing that there were always people criticizing her no matter how hard she tried. She added that mental health should be cared about more.
G-Dragon, who is involved in a drug scandal, also stressed that he should take care of himself more thoroughly because he is a profession that receives the public’s attention and love, but that he should find a way to personally relieve emptiness or stress. “That should never be drugs, and it’s not drugs,” he stressed.
