NCT WISH’s Sion Reveals Interesting SM Casting Story: “Got Scouted via Instagram DM in High School”
NCT WISH member Sion has fans buzzing after sharing the unexpected way he was cast by SM Entertainment, through a direct message on Instagram during his high school days.
On April 7, the online show “Donghaemul And Baekdu Eunhyuk” released an episode titled “Super Junior Are the Famous Dads of NCT WISH—No Arguments, WISH Is Right Anyway EP. NCT WISH Yushi & Sion,” featuring NCT WISH’s Sion and Yushi as guests alongside Super Junior members Eunhyuk and Donghae.
When asked about how he joined SM, Sion revealed, “I got cast during my first year of high school, through an Instagram DM. I had an Instagram account, however I wasn’t famous and I didn’t even post a lot. But they contacted me.”
Eunhyuk chimed in, noting SM’s long history of discovering talent through social media, mentioning RIIZE’s Wonbin and aespa’s Karina as prime examples. Donghae added with admiration, _”The most popular ones…” _with the caption “SM’s prettiest and most handsome ones”
Sion continued his story, saying, “The DM asked if I wanted to become a celebrity.. And so I refused. Then I asked which company they are and they told me they’re from SM. I thought, ‘The company with Donghae hyung from Super Junior?,’” a comment that earned a proud smile from Donghae, as both idols hail from Mokpo. Eunhyuk and Donghae clapped at Sion’s witty delivery, joking, “Your talk show skill is improving!”
When asked about how his parents reacted, Sion hinted at having had other offers in the past: “This wasn’t my first time being cast.”
Meanwhile, Yushi also shared his journey into SM, saying, “I passed SM’s audition in Japan during fourth grade.” Donghae couldn’t help but tease, “I’m sure he got accepted – at once just like me,” to which Eunhyuk added, “Many people say Yushi and Donghae look alike.” When Yushi jokingly hesitated, saying, “I’m not sure that we look alike.” Donghae mockingly pouted, _”You’re trying to keep a distance…,” _sparking laughter all around.
Sion’s unexpected Instagram scouting and Yushi’s early audition success highlight the diverse paths SM idols take to stardom.
