New Collab of BTS’s Jimin Sparks Outrage Within Fandom: Zionist & Problematic

Recently, it was announced that BTS’s Jimin will be releasing his 2nd solo album, “MUSE”. According to BIGHIT Music (BTS’s agency), the album will include 7 songs, including the previously released fan song “Closer Than This”.
Additionally, the track “Slow Dance” will be a collaboration with Sofia Carson, an American singer-actress known for her appearance in Disney’s “The Descendants”.

Sofia herself also seems excited about the collaboration, publishing several posts promoting “Slow Dance” on her SNS and even adding the caption “can’t wait to ‘slow dance’ with you…” on Instagram.
Upon learning this news, many fans are excited, digging back to Sofia’s old vocal chops and finding themselves liking her voice.

Some fans are somewhat torn, bringing back the fact that Sofia “suddenly jumped into a group photo with BTS” at The 2019 Billboard Music Awards (BBMAs), even touching j-hope, and later covered the English version of “Boy With Luv”, likely as an attempt to get “clout”.
However, a large fraction of the fandom pointed out a more serious side of Sofia’s problematic history and perspective, and showed anger about the collaboration.
In particular, Sofia once starred in “Purple Hearts”, a movie alleged to be a “rac*st military propaganda” that demeans Arabs and tries to paint the US military in a sympathetic light.

Additionally, the singer-actress, whose real name is Sofía Lauren Daccarett Char is “part of one of Colombia’s most corrupted and hated families”, which has links to various crimes such as human and drug trafficking, terrorism, and so on.
On top of this, Sofia also shows support for Zionism – a movement that supports the atrocious actions of Israel, which has committed mass-killing in Palestine.
As a result, many fans are spreading the word to boycott Jimin’s song with Sofia’s participation and express disappointment in the company’s decision to collaborate with such a problematic artist.
